Character and Scene concept art- Mary, Simon and their main props

Simon's desk in the Alchemy Lab. It is placed near a window, which he often looks out and daydreams.

Mary and her Dragon Cane. The outfit is based on the typical outfit my Grandmother wore as I have based the character of Mary off her. I did this because the character of Mary is wise, tough and kind, the words I would describe her. Also the dragon cane is meant to be a reference to the fact that Alchemy is said to emerged in the East, as well as many traders in the past claiming to have potions and objects from the East said to do everything from turning things into gold to immortality. Since the Dragon is such an easily recognised icon of the East (appearing in multiple myths and legends), I thought she should own a cane with a dragon head. Also I recently found my Grandfather's walking stick that featured a carved dog's head on the handle which is what made me start thinking about the cane as a main prop for the character. The character's purple hair is because I see a lot of older women dying their hair on my walks to and from uni and I think Mary, being a cool old woman, would dye her hair, or perhaps the colour is a result of years and years of alchemy.

It may not be a perfect merchandise opportunity, but I could see myself buying a Dragon head cane.

Simon and his Amulet. Now this one needs a bit of explaining because it came from a thought that lead into a dream that I then thought about during a 6am shift at work. The simple way of putting this is that the amulet is a smartphone. Since this is a fantasy-ish setting, they probably wouldn't invent technology as we know it, however they would have some way of communicating with each other over long distances quickly. Originally I was thinking of a simple phone shape that was made to look like it belonged in the world, but then I thought a bit more in terms of "Can this be a toy?" and went with an amulet. I feel the amulet works because jewellery is traditionally enchanted or magically enhanced in both fantasy worlds and in ancient times. In the Black Panther movie we saw those bracelet things that had numerous functions, which were technology but would it be too far of a stretch to say that magic or alchemy could achieve the same functionality?
So I decided to make an amulet smartphone device. The green gem on the top left acts as the notification light, flashing if something needs the user's attention. The purple gem acts as a way to interface with the device, effectively the equivalent of the iPhone's home button. The central part is the screen, which gets covered by a cover when not in use much like a pocket watch.
At the moment I don't have a name for this device, however I'm thinking the device would be connected to the "Amul-Net" in order to access information/do normal phone things.
In terms of a toy, it could be as simple as press a button and some lights flash and it makes some noises, or more complicated to a point where it's like a Tamagotchi or something to that effect.
I'm debating adding pocket watch styled buttons onto the sides, or adding something to it to make it, for lack of a better term, more Simon (Perhaps its dirty, the screen is cracked and it's a bit beaten up, kind of like an old iPhone)
