Character Design Project
Running alongside the Collaboration Project, we have the Character design Project. I have been given the character of an Alchemist.
For those who don't know, an alchemist in a nutshell was a scientist before science was how it is today. What they are most known for is claiming to; Transmute Lead or other metals into Gold, Make a person immortal, Cure any disease and Make a universal Solvent. Needless to say, their craft more more fantasy than reality. There have been no confirmed cases of someone turning lead into gold, or someone curing all known diseases with a single elixir.
I was surprised to see that Sir Issac Newton, one of the world's most influential scientists, studied Alchemy (along side other studies considered to be Occult).
As a character, the Alchemist is very interesting. I can see them not having the finest clothes regardless of wealth, as they would have spent all of their money on ingredients (possibly with the intention of making more gold). I can see them carrying around bags filled with equipment, ingredients and note books, possibly scrolls.
When it comes to finding real life reference, I am doubtful there are any real life images of Alchemists in action, however the fantasy genre is full of Alchemists or people of a similar role, and they are essentially scientists.
Overall, I like the fact I was given Alchemist. However looking ahead to the following week I see my conceit is 80/90's video games, which at a quick look seems to be interesting to say the least.
