Major- Who is Ijon Tichy?

Ijon Tichy is the main character in the book "The Star Diaries" and appears in some of the authors other works including "The Futurological Congress", "Peace on Earth", "Observation on the Spot", and "Memoirs of a Space Traveller".

He is a space explorer who seemingly travels alone and records his adventures and visits to different worlds. He is also a follower of scientific development, often being contacted or visiting researchers and inventors seeking his approval on their new projects or research. He doesn't appear to have a wife/husband or any children, his home on Earth housing himself and a robot servant that can't seem to do his tasks properly, which is presumably why he is able to travel so much. I have a suspicion that the character is rich, being that he is able to go into space, meaning he must have brought a spaceship, be able to pay for maintenance and fuel, as well as have a home on Earth and not needing a job in order to pay of a mortgage or bills. It is also not stated if being a space explorer is a job that pays, he does not appear to have an employer or someone contracting him to explore the stars for them, rather it seems that he might be some rich guy that decided one day that he wanted to explore space.

After reading the other books the character features in, as well as some searching online, I think that the character is largely a self insert by the author, meaning that the author puts themselves in the story as the main character. The character seems to always be helping people and solving their problems, even if these people are not human. Also, the character is one of the author's favourite characters to write about. In a sense the character can do no wrong and always comes out on top, regardless of the situation. Most authors have characters that are self inserts, as it is easy to write a character's reaction to something when it is largely based on yourself.

However this is all from the viewpoint of the character, the reader is not given any other accounts of what we are told in the book, so it could be that all of this is made up by the character. I have seen the character compared to the fictional character Baron Munchausen or Gulliver. It could be that the character is just a cleaner or a worker on a starship that never gets to go on these adventures and instead hears about them from the rest of the crew, writing them down as if they are his own adventures. Or perhaps, being alone in space for so long, writing imagined adventures is his only way to stay sane. But, being that I want to do a scene based on the book, it would be better to stick to what is presented in the book rather than read too much into it.

In terms of creating my scene, based on this information and my interpretation of the character, I think making the interior look like it cost a lot of money to make, that its of the highest standard. I would also like to make it looked lived in, like the character has made the space his home by decorating and adding the comforts of home. For instance, the act of cooking and eating features a lot within the book, so I would like there to a big space for doing so, a table and chair, one plate, bowl, knife and fork, ect, as well as things like spices, condiments and such.
